FP98: Upgrade Fails If Bin Folder Is Compressed in Windows NT

ID: Q184864

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the upgrade version of FrontPage on a Windows NT computer, the Setup program fails to find an earlier version of FrontPage even though it is currently installed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the "\Program Files\Microsoft FrontPage\Bin" folder is compressed.

WORKAROUND

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Windows NT Explorer.

NOTE: If you installed Microsoft FrontPage in a folder other than the default folder, double-click that folder.

  2. Double-click the C:\Program Files\Microsoft FrontPage folder.

  3. Right-click the Bin folder, and then click Properties.

  4. Click to clear the Compress check box, and click OK.

  5. Click Also Uncompress Subfolders and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
