Creating Multiple Webs Fails on O'Reilly Website Server

ID: Q192624

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new subweb against an O'Reilly Website Server, the following error message appears: Unable to connect to a server at <ServerName> on port 80 (Socket Error
code 10053) where <ServerName> is the name or IP address of your Web server.

CAUSE

After a subweb is created, the Website Server restarts itself as soon as it can go idle. If you attempt to create a second subweb before this idle time occurs, you will see the error message above.

WORKAROUND

There are two ways to work around this problem.

Method 1

Try creating the subweb again. If the server has had idle time since your previous attempt, the subweb will be successfully created.

Method 2

Restart the Website Server manually and then create the subweb.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows and Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION

If the WebSite Server is a Web server that receives a lot of hits, the server may never go idle. In this situation, you must restart the server manually.
