Error 270 When Opening a FrontPage Web on IIS 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the Open FrontPage Web command in FrontPage Explorer that is hosted by an Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 Web server, the following error message occurs:

Error 270 (0x0000010e)
The Open FrontPage Web command is then terminated.


CAUSE

This error message occurs on computers with FrontPage 98 Server Extensions, IIS 4.0, and Visual Source Safe 5.0 installed.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT service pack that contains this fix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install the components in the following order:

  1. Visual Source Safe 5.0


  2. FrontPage 98 Server Extensions


  3. Service Pack 3 for Visual Studio

STATUS
