Err Msg: Cannot Interpret Browser Image Map Query

SYMPTOMS

The following error may occur in the system event log:


   [Source] FrontPage 3.0
   [Description]
   Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions Error 60007. "Cannot
   interpret a browser image map query. Queries must be in the
   form x=x,y=y" 
This error occurs on a Windows NT Server computer with Internet Information Server running FrontPage 98 Server Extensions. This error also occurs on UNIX systems in the system log, but will be formatted differently.


CAUSE

There are several potential causes of this problem:

  • Web spiders attempting to index the site that do not understand image maps.


  • Web spiders that index all areas of the image, including areas outside the image map.


  • Malformed browser requests also cause this error.



RESOLUTION

This problem has been fixed in the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions. It is available for download from http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage

To resolve this problem, upgrade the Web server to the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FrontPage 98 for Windows.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following workarounds to resolve this problem:

  • Ignore this error message. It does not indicate a problem or misconfiguration of the server or the FrontPage Server Extensions. It is commonly seen in server log files, particularly those with a high number of hits. -or-


  • Use NCSA, CERN, or Netscape server side image maps, or use client side image maps. -or-


  • Use a Robots.txt file to ban Web crawlers from each _vti_bin directory on the Web site.
