Folders Converted to Webs Lose Source Control

SYMPTOMS

If you have a virtual server enabled with FrontPage Built in Source Control or Visual Source Safe and you convert a folder in the Web to a subweb, the folder is not automatically set to be under Source Control.

If the new Web is not placed under Source Control, data may be lost. If users make changes to documents in the new Web and the Web is ever placed back under Source Control, those changes will be lost.

CAUSE

FrontPage does not automatically turn on Source Control for new Webs created from existing folders in the Source Controlled Web.

RESOLUTION

To set Source Control for the new Web, use the FrontPage Microsoft Management Console snap-in on the Web server and select Properties for the folder. If you are using Internet Information Server (IIS) version 4.0 or 5.0, you can do this by performing the following steps:

1. Opening the Internet Services Manager.



2. Select the properties for the folder that was converted to a Web.



3. Click the Server Extensions tab and select the method of Version Control.

2. Select the properties for the folder that was converted to a Web, and then select the method of Version Control.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
