Visual InterDev Server Component Registration is Broken

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to FrontPage 2000 and subsequently install the Visual InterDev RAD Remote Deployment Support in the Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, you cannot register a component on the server. The following error message occurs:

This feature is not enabled on the Master Web Server. See the Visual InterDev product documentation to learn how to enable server component registration with FrontPage Server Extensions.

CAUSE

FrontPage checks for the installation of the Visual InterDev component registration only once at install time. If you enable Visual InterDev RAD Remote Deployment Support after FrontPage does the check, FrontPage will never extend your FrontPage 2000 Web with this component enabled.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually copy \program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin\Fp4areg.dll into \program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\isapi\_vti_aut\Fp4areg.dll. When you have copied the file into this folder, rename it to Fp30reg.dll.

After you do this, uninstall and reinstall the Server Extensions to this Web for the change to take effect.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
