ID: Q223008

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you browse to a page containing a FrontPage hit counter, the counter is displayed as a red x.

CAUSE

This problem can be caused by one of the following:

  1. Inappropriate permissions in the Fpcount.exe file.

  2. The Server Extensions are not installed.

  3. The Server Extensions are not configured properly.

RESOLUTION

Resolution 1

In the FrontPage Client, do the following:

  1. Open the Web containing the hit counter.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Permissions.

  3. On the Users tab, remove the Iusr_machinename account (if it is there).

  4. On the Groups tab, remove Interactive, Network, and Everyone (if they are there).

  5. Click apply

  6. On the Users tab, click the radio button so only registered users have browse access.

  7. Click Apply.

  8. Click the radio button so everyone has browse access.

  9. Click Apply.

  10. Browse to the page.

This should reset the permissions for the hit counter and it should now increment.

Resolution 2

If the Server Extensions are not installed, click the Install button in the FrontPage Server Administrator.

Resolution 3

If the Server Extensions are installed, in the FrontPage Server Administrator, highlight the virtual server and click Upgrade.

If you are using a custom GIF file make sure the file is present in the path specified and that the file is not corrupt.
