FPSE2000 for UNIX Always Create *.cnf Configuration File to /Usr/Local/Frontpage Directory

SYMPTOMS

When the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions for UNIX are installed to a virtual site, a *.cnf configuration file is created in the Usr/Local/Frontpage directory. There is a 60,000 file limit to one directory on UNIX. Therefore, a UNIX server cannot have more than 60,000 virtual sites with the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.

WORKAROUND

Do not configure more than 60,000 virtual sites on one UNIX server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
