SYMPTOMS

When you browse to a Microsoft Office 2000 document through the HTTP protocol in Internet Explorer 5.0, make edits to the document, and then attempt to save it back to the Web, the Save option is disabled (grayed out). In many cases, if you attempt to use the Save As option, one of the following error messages occurs:

Document not saved.

CAUSE

The feature to save a Microsoft Office 2000 document to a FrontPage Web is disabled if the Microsoft Office 2000 application is started within Internet Explorer 5.0.

WORKAROUND

To save a Microsoft Office 2000 document to a FrontPage Web, open the document in the appropriate Microsoft Office application and save it using Web Folders. For example, if the document you are saving is a Microsoft Word document, use the following steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft Word.

  2. On the Microsoft Word menu bar, click File and then click Open.

  3. In the Open Web dialog box, click Web Folders.

  4. Click the Web Folder location where the Microsoft Word document resides, and then click Open.

  5. Find the document you want to edit, click the document name, and then click Open.

  6. Make any edits to the document that you want.

  7. Click File, and then click Save.

STATUS
