Server Extensions Cause Infinite Loop Sending Form Results Through Email

SYMPTOMS

The FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions may cause 100% CPU utilization in the inetinfo process when sending form results through email to Windows NT Mail 3.0 from the Internet Shopper LTD.

This problem may possibly occur with other SMTP servers as well.


CAUSE

FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions is unable to break out of a receive loop while receiving an SMTP response if a socket was closed unexpectedly.


RESOLUTION

There is no resolution to this problem. See the "Workaround" section in this article.


WORKAROUND

Use a different SMTP server. A free SMTP server is included in the Windows NT Option Pack, which can be downloaded from:

http://www.microsoft.com


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions.
