FP1: Error Starting FrontPage 1.1 After Upgrading Extensions

ID: Q166364

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage for Windows 1.1

SYMPTOMS

If you install the FrontPage 97 Server Extensions to a computer running FrontPage 1.1, you will see the following error message when you attempt to start FrontPage 1.1:

The dynamic link library vt11tdo.dll could not be found in the specified path <pathname>
where <pathname> is the path environment variable from the local operating system.

You will then receive the following error message:
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application.

CAUSE

When you installed the FrontPage 97 Server Extensions you overwrote the FrontPage 1.1 Server Extensions. As a result, you replaced the .dll files that are required to start FrontPage 1.1.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, use these steps:

  1. Remove the FrontPage 97 Server Extensions, by rerunning the FrontPage Setup program.

  2. Delete the Frontpg.ini file. This file is located in the c:\<Windows> folder on your hard disk.

  3. Reinstall FrontPage 1.1 to the same folder where it was originally installed.

  4. Reinstall the FrontPage 97 Server Extensions to a separate directory. Do not install them over the FrontPage 1.1 installation. If you are running Windows NT 3.51, add the FrontPage Server Extensions to a separate program group also.
