FP1: How to Completely Remove FrontPage for the Macintosh

ID: Q175454

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage for the Power Macintosh, version 1.0

SUMMARY

When you run the Microsoft FrontPage Setup program, clicking Remove does not remove the shared components. To successfully troubleshoot system and OLE errors, you may need to completely remove FrontPage to ensure that any damaged files are replaced when you reinstall FrontPage.

MORE INFORMATION

To completely remove Microsoft FrontPage for the Power Macintosh, follow these steps:

  1. Rerun the FrontPage setup program:

    1. Insert the FrontPage compact disk in the CD-ROM drive.

    2. Double-click the Microsoft FrontPage Install icon.

    3. Click Remove on the Easy install pull-down menu.

    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

When the Setup program has finished, you will receive a message indicating that "Setup was completed successfully."

  2. Open the Macintosh HD:Microsoft FrontPage folder and move any files that you want to keep to another folder on your hard disk or to the Desktop.

  3. Delete the Macintosh HD:Microsoft FrontPage folder by dragging it to the Trash.

  4. Open the Macintosh HD:System:Extensions folder. Move the following files to the Trash:

NOTE: The following extensions are shared components that may be used by other programs on your computer. If you do not plan to reinstall FrontPage, you will need to reinstall the program that uses these components.

          FP Client Library
          FP Convert Library
          FP Extender Library
          FP Image Library
          FP Open Transport
          FP Splash Library
          FP Todo Library
          FP Utility Library
          FP Webpost Library
          Microsoft C Runtime Library
          Microsoft Controls Library
          Microsoft MFC 4.0 Library
          Microsoft MFC 4.0 OLE Library
          Microsoft OLE Automation
          Microsoft OLE Dialog Library
          Microsoft OLE Extension
          Microsoft OLE Library
          Microsoft OLE Portability Lib
          Microsoft Portability Library
          Microsoft RichEdit Library

  5. Open the Macintosh HD:System:Preferences folder, and move the following files to the trash.

NOTE: The PPC Registration Database keeps track of which components are installed on your computer. If you remove this file, the setup programs for later versions of Microsoft programs will no longer function.

          Embedding Preferences
          FrontPage Editor Preferences
          FrontPage Explorer Preferences
          FrontPage Preferences
          FrontPage Registry Emulation
          PPC Registration Database
          Registration Database

  6. If you have not installed other Microsoft programs on your computer, delete the entire Microsoft folder. Otherwise, delete the following two files, which are installed by FrontPage.

          Microsoft Help v3.5.3
          Microsoft Help Run Time v4.0b
    NOTES:

    • Later versions of Microsoft programs for the Macintosh share the Microsoft folder on the hard disk. This folder contains such items as Clip Art Gallery, Word Art, Equation editor, Microsoft Help, Setup programs, and so on. FrontPage will create the Microsoft folder if it does not already exist.
    • If you delete this folder, you may need to remove and then reinstall other Microsoft programs that use the files in this folder. This is because shared components and setup programs may no longer work.
