FP1: Cannot Open File When Folder Contains Slash "/" Character

SYMPTOMS

When you import a file into a web you receive the following error message

Cannot open "<hard disk>:<folder>:<file>". No such file or directory.

where <hard disk> is the name of your hard disk, <folder> is the name of the folder in which the file is located, and <file> is the name of your file.

CAUSE

The folder name contains an invalid character, such as the slash ("/") character.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Rename the Folder so that it Contains only Valid Characters

Rename the folder by following these steps:

Select the folder you want to rename.

Place your pointer over the name of the folder. The pointer looks like an I-beam.

Click once. The pointer is positioned inside the name field.

Remove any characters that are not letters, numbers, or spaces.

Press RETURN to accept your changes.

You will not be able to import files from FrontPage Explorer.

Method 2: Drag Your File to the FrontPage Webs Folder on Your Hard Disk

Drag the file you want to import into your Web by following these steps:

Double-click the hard disk icon to open it.

Double-click the folder that contains the file you want to import.

Double-click the FrontPage Webs folder to open it. This folder contains a folder that is identical to the name of your Web. Double-click this folder to open it.

Drag the file you want to import into the Web content folder you opened in step 3.
