MOD2000: Access Workflow Designer Server Setup Fails on Backup Domain Controller (BDC)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Access Workflow Designer server components on a Microsoft Windows NT backup domain controller, Setup is not successful, and you receive the following error message:

Setup cannot continue. Unable to add user to Windows NT local group "modAppOwners".

To continue, remove or rename the existing modAppOwners group and run Setup again. For more information, see the "Creating User Accounts and Assigning Permissions" topic in the Administrator's Guide (modAdminGuide.chm)."
This error is also logged in the SetupS.log file, and can also be accompanied by the following network error message:
This operation is only allowed on the primary domain controller of the domain.


CAUSE

The Access Workflow Designer server components cannot be installed on a Windows NT backup domain controller.


RESOLUTION

Install the Access Workflow Designer server components on a non-Windows NT backup domain controller.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Install all prerequisites for an Access Workflow Designer server computer on a Windows NT backup domain controller.


  2. Install the Access Workflow Designer server components on the Windows NT backup domain controller. Note that you receive one or both of the error messages mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
