ERROR MESSAGE

When you attempt to open a file, the following error may occur:

Unable to open file.
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. CAUSE

This error message may occur for one of the following reasons:

  • The filename or path may be invalid.
  • The file may be damaged.
  • You may be opening a file in a program that is not designed to open this file format.


WHAT TO TRY

  • Confirm that the file name and path are correct. If you are opening a file through a hyperlink, try opening the file directly instead.


  • If the file is damaged or corrupt, there may be ways to retrieve all or part of the data in the file.


  • Check Help in the program to see if the type of file being opened is supported in the program.
