ERROR MESSAGE

When you reference hyperlinks in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), the following error may occur:

Cannot start the program needed to open this file.

CAUSE

This error message may occur for one of the following reasons. See the "What to Try" section for the resolution that applies to your situation:

  • You are using one of the following VBA methods:


    • Doc.FollowHyperlink


    • Hyperlink.Follow


    • Document.Reload

  • There is a problem starting the program associated with the type of file you are trying to open for one of the following reasons:


    • The program may not be installed.


    • Some of the necessary program files may be missing or damaged.


    • The program may not be properly registered in the Windows registry.



WHAT TO TRY

  • Install the program needed to open this type of file.


  • If the program is already installed, try reinstalling the program to replace any missing files and to properly register the program in the Windows registry.
