OFF2000: Errors Running Office from CD-ROM

SYMPTOMS
After installing Office, when you restart Windows, the following message will appear:
Windows Installer
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk
that is not available.
Insert the 'Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition' disk and click OK.
When you insert your Beta 2 disc, a blue screen with an error similar to the following may appear:
Error reading CD-ROM in drive D:
Please Insert CD-ROM o9prmcd01
With serial number EE77-B778 in Drive D:
If the CD-ROM is still in the drive, it may require cleaning.
Press ENTER or OK or ESC to Cancel: OK
If you press ENTER or OK, the blue screen continues to appear. If you press ESC, the following error appears:
Findfast
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
Quit all programs, and then restart your computer. If the problem persists,
contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, the following appears:
Findfast caused an exception c0000006H in module Kernel32.dll at 015f:bff8194e.
When you click Close, the following error appears:
Osa9
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, the following appears:
Osa9 caused an exception c0000006H in module Osa9.exe at 015f:300045a.
CAUSE
This problem will occur when you do the following:
- You install Office 2000 Beta 2 (build 2221b) and choose Run all from CD.
-and-
- You eject the Beta 2 disc from the CD-ROM drive.
-and-
- You install the released version of Office from the CD-ROM and choose Run all from CD.
RESOLUTION
To successfully install the released version of Office, first remove the Beta 2 version of Office. To remove Office 2000 Beta 2, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel.
- Click to select Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition in the list, and click Add/Remove.
NOTE: The Beta 2 version of Office is denoted by the name Edition. The released version of Office does not contain the word Edition in its name.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Remove Office.
- If you are prompted to restart Windows, do so.
STATUS
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000.
