OFF2000: Motionless Office Assistant Does Not Display in the Assistant Gallery

SYMPTOMS

When you browse the Office Assistants on the Gallery tab of the Office Assistant dialog box, the Motionless Office Assistant is not displayed.

CAUSE

The Motionless Office Assistant (Stillogo.acs) will not be displayed in the Office Assistant gallery if both of the following are true:

• You manually copied Stillogo.acs from the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit (ORK).


-and-


• You copied the file into any folder other than:

  
  \Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Actors. 

  Using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, the folder is




\Winnt\Profiles\<User name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Actors. 

where <User name> is the person whose profile is being used.

RESOLUTION

To see the Motionless Office Assistant on the Gallery tab of the Office Assistant dialog box, follow these steps:

1. Quit all Office programs.



2. Move Stillogo.acs into one of the following folders, depending on the version of Windows you are using:




Windows 95 or later

\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Actors 

Windows NT 4.0

\Winnt\Profiles\<User name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Actors 

1. Create the following folder structure under the Default User profile:




\Winnt\Profiles\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Actors. 

2. Copy Stillogo.acs from the ORK into the Actors folder created in the previous step.


This folder structure will be copied to a new user's profile the first time they log on.
