OFF2000: Shortcut Keys in Dialog Boxes Do Not Work

ID: Q231624

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use shortcut keys in dialog boxes, the shortcut keys do not work.

CAUSE

In Office 2000 applications, the shortcut keys in dialog boxes are keyboard-specific. Therefore, shortcut keys do not work when the keyboard layout (language) differs from the user interface language.

RESOLUTION

When you use shortcut keys within dialog boxes in Office 2000 applications, ensure that your keyboard layout (language) matches the language of the user interface.

For example, if you are working in a Hebrew user interface, you need to switch your keyboard to Hebrew so that the shortcut keys in a dialog box work properly.

You can rotate through all your available keyboard layouts (languages) by pressing LEFT ALT+SHIFT.

MORE INFORMATION

With shortcut keys, you can perform actions using the keyboard alone. Shortcut keys are defined by the underline found under certain characters in the user interface. An example of a shortcut key is File in the menu bar at the top of the Word window. Pressing ALT+F opens the File menu.
