SYMPTOMS
When you run Office setup, the amount of disk space required for the installation may vary significantly from the amount of disk space reported by the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW).
CAUSE
The required disk space in the Set Feature Installation States dialog box of the CIW can vary from the disk space reported during Office setup because of the following:
- The CIW does not take into consideration the amount of disk space required to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5. The disk space value reported during Office setup does include the space required for the selected installation type for Internet Explorer 5. This additional space can be as high as 70 MB.
-and-
- The CIW does not know whether or not you have the Windows Desktop Update installed when you run Office setup. If you set any of the features in the CIW to Installed on First Use and you do not have the Windows Desktop Update installed when you run Office setup, these features will automatically be changed to Run from My Computer. Since you do not have the Windows Desktop Update installed, Installed on First Use will also not be an option for the Office program features in Office setup.
MORE INFORMATION
The amount of disk space required to install Office can also vary because of the following:
- The cluster size of your disk drive. The CIW calculates disk space using a cluster size of 32 Kilobytes. If your disk has a small cluster size, the amount of disk space shown in the Office setup dialogs may be less than the approximate value listed in the CIW.
-and-
- Existing files on your disk drive. If Office setup replaces previous versions of some files, then the total additional disk space needed will be less than the approximate value listed in the CIW.
