SYMPTOMS

If you attempt to run any of the programs included in Microsoft Office 2000 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) on or after November 1, 1999, you may receive the following error message:

Prerelease expiration notice. This Beta of Office 2000 has expired.
Install the retail version or obtain an updated beta release from
Microsoft.


CAUSE

Microsoft Office 2000 RC1 expired on November 1, 1999.


RESOLUTION

If you have Microsoft Office 2000 RC1 installed on your computer, you should remove RC1 from your system and install the final released version of Microsoft Office 2000.

To remove Microsoft Office 2000 RC1 from your system:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


  2. In the list of installed programs, select Microsoft Office 2000. Then, click Add/Remove.


  3. In the Office Setup dialog box, click Remove Office. Then, click Yes to confirm that you want to uninstall. After you remove Office from your computer, restart your computer if prompted to do so.


After removing Microsoft Office 2000 RC1 from your computer, you may also want to download, install, and run the Eraser 2000 utility to remove unwanted Office 2000 files and settings.
