ID: Q237921

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office 2000
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Developer, version 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you click Next in Step 6 (Remove Previous Versions) of the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW), an error message similar to the following may appear:

Windows NT 4.0

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

CUSTWIZ.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x004262f8

Windows 95 or Windows 98

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, an error message similar to the following may appear:
CUSTWIZ caused an invalid page fault in module CUSTWIZ.EXE at 015f:00426338.

CAUSE

The error described in the "Symptoms" section of this article may occur if you are using Data1.msi for Microsoft Access 2000 Runtime in the CIW.

Step 7 of the CIW usually displays the Feature tree for the .msi package you have loaded. However, Data1.msi for Access 2000 Runtime does not have a Feature tree, so it is not necessary to use Step 7 of the CIW.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, please do the following:

  1. Start the CIW.

  2. When you get to Step 6 (Remove Previous Versions), do not click Next. Instead, click the list (6 of 17) and select 8 Customize Default Application Settings.

  3. Complete the remaining dialog boxes in the CIW, and click Finish.
