This problem can occur when both of the following are true:

  • You have any type of toolbar, such as the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, docked on both the left and right sides of the screen.

  • You have both of these toolbars set to Auto Hide.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, follow these steps to turn off the Auto Hide feature of the toolbars:

  1. Right-click the toolbar.

    A shortcut menu appears.

  2. If Auto Hide is selected (a check mark appears to the left), click it to turn off Auto Hide.

NOTE: The above steps are specific for the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar and for toolbars provide by Microsoft Windows. Other toolbars that can be docked may have different steps to turn off Auto Hide.
