OFF2000: Dictionaries Don't Work After Upgrading from Bidirectional Office to Office 2000

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word 2000, the dictionary feature may not work after you upgrade from a Hebrew or Arabic version of Microsoft Office 95 to a left-to-right (non-bidirectional) version of Microsoft Office 2000.

CAUSE

Arabic and Hebrew dictionaries are not available in left-to-right versions of Office. As a result, the necessary files are not available for the right-to-left proofing tools to function.

WORKAROUND

To use Arabic or Hebrew dictionaries in Office 2000, either obtain the localized version of Office (that is, Arabic or Hebrew Office), or install the Microsoft Office 2000 MultiLanguage Pack, which includes Arabic and Hebrew proofing tools. When using the MultiLanguage Pack, you must turn on the appropriate language in the Office Language Settings before using it in Office 2000.
