SYMPTOMSWhen you run the Sounds.exe program to install additional sounds for Microsoft Office 97, the "Provide feedback with sound" option is not selected in your Microsoft Office 97 programs. When you then select the option, you may receive an error message that indicates that sounds are not installed. WORKAROUNDThe Option Is Not SelectedThe Microsoft Office 97 compact disc includes a folder called ValuPack. This folder contains other folders that include additional components designed for use with Microsoft Office 97.One of these components, Sounds.exe, is contained in the ValuPack\Sounds folder. When you run this program, it copies sounds onto your hard disk and assigns each sound to a particular event (for example, clicking a scroll bar, saving a file, selecting a menu, and so on) in the Windows registry. However, running the Sounds.exe program does not enable the sounds in the Office 97 programs. To do this, use the following steps for each Office 97 program:
An Error Message Appears After You Select the OptionWhen you select the "Provide feedback with sound" option before you run Sounds.exe, the following warning message appears:If you download and run Sounds.exe from the Microsoft World Wide Web site; or you run Sounds.exe in the ValuPack\Sounds folder on the compact disc, you must also select the "Provide feedback with sound" check box.
