OFF97: No ISP Offers with SBE 2.0 When Running Microsoft Windows NT

SYMPTOMS
When you run the Internet Connection Wizard that is included with Microsoft
Office 97 Small Business Edition for Windows, version 2.0 to find an
Internet Service Provider (ISP) in your area, you see a Hypertext Markup
Language (HTML) page with the following message:
Welcome to the Microsoft Internet Referral Service. From the list
below, choose the service provider whose offer best fits your Internet
needs.
We're sorry, the service you have requested is not currently available
in your area.
The list for Premier Internet Service Providers is a blank, and the only
button this is available is Cancel.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You are running Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0.
-and-
- You start the Internet Connection Wizard, which is a feature in "Doing
Business on the Internet" in Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition
version 2.0.

The Internet Connection Wizard walks you through the steps necessary to
connect to the Internet and find an ISP. It also helps you find out about
special offers for Internet access and Web hosting for Office Small
Business Edition customers. The Internet Connection Wizard requires
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 or later to run. The Internet Connection
Wizard that is included with Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition
version 2.0 returns a blank list of ISPs from the Microsoft Internet
Referral Server if Microsoft Windows NT is the operating system.
Starting the Internet Connection Wizard
To start the wizard, follow these steps:
- Insert the Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition version 2.0
compact disc to start AutoPlay.
- Click "Doing Business on the Internet." This should open the following
HTML document
<drive>:\ValuPack\Internet\default.htm
where <drive> is your CD-ROM drive (usually drive D) in Microsoft
Internet Explorer.
- Click Internet Connection Wizard on the Get Connected frame on the left.
- Click Internet Connection Wizard on the page on the right. Click Run
this Program from its current location" and click OK to start the
Internet Connection Wizard (Icwtool.exe). If a Security Warning dialog
box appears, click Yes.
- In Internet Connection Wizard, click Next, type your location
information, and then click Next.
Internet Connection Wizard connects to the Microsoft Internet Referral
Service Server and downloads a page with Sign Me Up and More Info links for
each ISP.
