MORE INFORMATION

Once you receive this error message, it will not be repeated in the other Office programs. For example, if you receive this error message while starting Microsoft Word, you will not receive this error message the next time that you start Microsoft Excel.

If the QuickTime and QuickTime PowerPlug extensions are currently enabled, you may want to perform the following tests to determine whether or not QuickTime is functioning properly on your computer.

Method 1 - Insert a QuickTime Movie into a Document

One test that you can use to determine whether QuickTime is installed properly is to insert a movie file into your document. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Office 98 compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Start Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.

  3. Click Movie on the Insert menu. Browse to the Value Pack:Clipart:Multimedia:Movies folder on the Office 98 CD.

  4. Click Arrow Hit, then click Open.

The movie file should be inserted into your document. If you receive an error message, then QuickTime is not installed properly on your computer.

Method 2 - Open a QuickTime movie in MoviePlayer

One test that you can use to determine whether QuickTime is installed properly is to open a movie file in MoviePlayer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Office 98 CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. Open the Applications:Movie Player folder on your hard disk.

  3. Double-click MoviePlayer.

  4. Click Open on the File menu. Browse to the Value Pack:Clipart:Multimedia:Movies folder on the Office 98 CD.

  5. Click Arrow Hit, then click Open.

The movie should be opened in MoviePlayer. If you receive an error message, then QuickTime is not installed properly on your computer.
