New Features That Are Included in Microsoft Office Manager

The new version of Microsoft Office Manager that is included with Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition includes all of the earlier version functionality and the following new functionality:

  • An updated list of Microsoft programs


  • "QuickSwitch" functionality, which allows you to switch between programs by pressing COMMAND+TAB, OPTION+TAB, or CONTROL+TAB


When Is Microsoft Office Manager Installed?

Microsoft Office Manager is installed with Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition only when both of the following conditions are true:

  • An earlier version of Microsoft Office Manager is already installed on the computer.

    -and-


  • You perform install Office 98 using one of the following methods:

    • You install Microsoft Office 98 by running the Microsoft Office Installer.

      -or-


    • You created aliases that are used to run the Office 98 programs directly from a network server.

      -or-


    • You created aliases that are used to run the Office 98 programs directly the Office 98 Compact Disc.




If you perform a drag-and-drop installation of Microsoft Office 98 or if an earlier version of Microsoft Office Manager is not already installed on the computer, the new version of Microsoft Office Manager is not installed.

NOTE: To perform a drag-and-drop installation of Microsoft Office 98, drag the Microsoft Office 98 folder from the compact disc to your hard disk.

How to Manually Install Microsoft Office Manager

To manually install Microsoft Office Manager, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

To use this method, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition compact disc.


  2. Use the Finder to open the Value Pack folder on the compact disc. Then, double-click the Value Pack Installer.


  3. In the list of components, select the Microsoft Office Manager check box. Then, click Install.


  4. Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so by the installer program.


Method 2

To use this method, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition compact disc.


  2. Use the Finder to open the Value Pack:Microsoft Office Manager folder on the compact disc.


  3. Drag the Microsoft Office Manager file to the desktop.


  4. Use the Finder to open the hard disk so that you can see the icon for the System Folder.


  5. Drag the Microsoft Office Manager file from the desktop onto the System Folder icon. Click OK to move the file in the Control Panels folder.


  6. Restart the computer.


When you restart the computer, the Microsoft Office Manager menu appears on the menu bar, which is to the left of the Application menu.

For more information, double-click the "About the Value Pack" Help file in the Value Pack folder. Click Value Pack Components, and then click Microsoft Office Manager.
