OFF98: Send To Sub Menu or Mail Recipient Menu Item Is Missing

SYMPTOMS
In the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs listed at the
beginning of this article, the following symptoms may occur:
- The Send To submenu is not on the File menu in Microsoft Excel 98
Macintosh Edition.
-or-
- The Mail Recipient command is not on the Send To submenu (on the File
menu) in either Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition or Microsoft
PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition.
-or-
- The wrong mail client is started when you click Mail Recipient on the
Send To submenu.
CAUSE
Send To or Mail Recipient Are Not Available
This problem may occur in Word or PowerPoint for one of the following
reasons:
- A mail client is not installed on your computer.
-or-
- The mailto protocol helper does not exist or a mail client configured as
the helper is not installed.
Mail Recipient Starts the Wrong Mail Client
This problem may occur if the mailto protocol helper is configured
incorrectly.
WORKAROUND
To configure the mailto protocol helper so that
- Mail Recipient is available in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
-or-
- The correct mail client is started when you click Mail Recipient
follow these steps:
- On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Configuration
Manager.
- Click Protocol Helpers in the list on the left side of the
Configuration Manager dialog box.
- Click mailto in the list of protocols, and then click Change.
NOTE: If mailto is not listed in the list of protocols, click Add and
type mailto in the Helper For box.
- In the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box, click Choose Helper.
- Locate and select the appropriate mail client program, and then click
Open. Click OK in the Protocol Helper Editor dialog box.
- Click OK in the Configuration Manager dialog box.
- Restart the Office program.

If you click Mail Recipient on the Send To submenu, the following e-mail
clients (configured in Configuration Manager) are started by Office 98
programs:
Outlook Express
Microsoft Exchange Client
Microsoft Outlook for the Power Macintosh
Eudora Lite or Eudora Pro versions 3.1 or later
Clairis Emailer
CE Quickmail
The following email clients can also be used by Office 98 programs:
Quarterdeck Mail
Microsoft Mail
StarNine Mail
However, these mail clients are not configured through the Configuration
Manager control panel. If they are installed on your computer, all
Microsoft Office 98 programs detect them and automatically use them for
sending Office documents.
NOTE: If any one of the following mail clients are installed, you may also
see in Excel a Mail submenu on the File menu in addition to the Send To
submenu:
Quarterdeck Mail
Microsoft Mail
StarNine Mail
To send an Excel document by using one of these clients, point to Mail on
the File menu, and then click Mail Recipient.
