SYMPTOMS

When you view the Disk Storage information in the System Info dialog box, the following items may incorrectly report their values:

  • Volume Size

  • Free Space

CAUSE

In the System Info dialog box, the Volume Size may be incorrectly reported if the size of your drive is greater than 2 gigabytes (GB), and the Free Space may be incorrectly reported if the total amount of free space on your drive is greater than 4 GB.

WORKAROUND

To accurately view the information of your hard drives, use the Apple System Profiler. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. In the Finder, click Apple System Profiler on the Apple menu.

  2. On the Select menu, click Volume Information.

The Volume Information dialog box will display the correct information for all of your hard drives.

NOTE: The Apple System Profiler is not available in all versions of the Apple Macintosh System Software.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
