MORE INFORMATION
To obtain the Microsoft Office 98 Updater, see the Microsoft World Wide Web
site:
http://www.microsoft.com/macoffice/productinfo/98dl/offi98patch.htm
The Microsoft Office 98 Updater copies newer versions of the following
files:
Microsoft Office First Run
Visual Basic for Applications
Microsoft PowerPoint
PP Translator 8-4
Since these files are located on the Microsoft Office 98 compact disc, the
Microsoft Office 98 Updater cannot update these files. However, the
Microsoft Office First Run file is responsible for updating the following
OLE files located in the System Folder:Extensions folder:
Microsoft Component Library
Microsoft OLE Automation
Microsoft OLE Library
Microsoft Structured Storage
To update your Run From Compact Disc installation of Office 98 with the
Microsoft Office 98 Updater, follow these steps:
- Open the Microsoft Office 98:Office folder on the Microsoft Office 98
CD.
- Drag the Microsoft Office First Run file to your desktop.
- Double-click Microsoft Office 98 Updater.
- In the dialog box that displays the Readme file for the
Microsoft Office 98 Updater, click Continue.
- In the Microsoft Office 98 Updater dialog box, click Update.
- In the dialog box that indicates that the update was
successful, click Continue.
- In the Microsoft Office First Run dialog box, click Install.
The first run installation process runs, and the appropriate
files in the Extensions Folder are updated.

- Drag the Microsoft Office First Run file from your desktop to the
Trash.
NOTE: If the first run installation process places the original OLE files

Folder:Extensions" folder, then you will need to run the Microsoft Office
98 Updater to get the latest version of the files.
