OFF98: Type 1 Error Starting Program with RAM Doubler Enabled

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition program, you may receive the following error message

The application <program> has unexpectedly quit, because an
error of type 1 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
computer.
where <program> is the name of the program that you are starting.


CAUSE

This problem may occur if you are running RAM Doubler version 2.0 or 2.0.2.


RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Obtain the RAM Doubler 8 Updater

Method 2: Enable Virtual Memory

If you cannot obtain the RAM Doubler 8 update, you can work around this problem by enabling Virtual Memory. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. You must disable RAM Doubler before you enable Virtual Memory. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Extensions Manager.


    2. Click to clear the RAM Doubler 2 check box.


    3. Click Restart.




  2. Enable Virtual Memory. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. On the Apple menu, point to Control Panels, and then click Memory.


    2. Under Virtual Memory, click to select On.


    3. Close the Memory control panel.


    4. On the Special menu, click Restart.
