ID: Q204202

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

In Office 98 Macintosh Edition, you can save files in each application with a large number of custom properties and some built-in properties. However, you cannot search for all of these properties when you click Open on the File menu, click Find File, and then click Advanced Search.

CAUSE

Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition uses the same Find File as Microsoft Office 4.2 for the Macintosh and thus can find only those properties available in Microsoft Office 4.2 for the Macintosh.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To type document properties, click Properties on the File menu and click the Summary tab or Custom tab.

Of the properties that can be entered for a document, you can only search for the following properties in Advanced Search:

  • Author
  • Keywords
  • Subject
You cannot search for the following properties in a document:
  • Manager
  • Company
  • Category
  • Comments
  • Hyperlink base
  • Any property on the Custom tab of the document Properties dialog box
