Microsoft Word Displayed in Original Location on Office Menu

ID: Q115582

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for Windows, version 4.2

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Office version 4.2, when you remove Microsoft Word from or change its location on the Microsoft Office menu, the command reappears in the original location when you close and restart the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM).

WORKAROUNDS

To move the Microsoft Word command to another location on the Microsoft Office menu, do the following to create another menu item for this application:

  1. From the Microsoft Office Manager toolbar, choose the Microsoft Office button.

  2. From the Microsoft Office menu, choose Customize.

  3. Select the Menu tab, and choose the Add button. In the Description box, enter a description for Microsoft Word, such as Word 6. In the Command Line box, type the path to the Microsoft Word program file, such as C:\WINWORD\WINWORD.EXE, or use the Browse button to locate the file. In the Working Directory box, enter a path to the directory where you want to save your documents. Choose OK.

  4. In the Customize dialog box, use the Move buttons to move the new item to the location you want it to be displayed in on the menu. Choose OK.

Note that you still cannot remove Microsoft Word from the Microsoft Office menu; however, you can use the new Word 6 option to start Microsoft Word from the Microsoft Office menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem has been corrected in MOM version 4.2c and Microsoft Office version 4.3.
