GP Fault Closing Cue Card While Locate Dialog Box Displayed

ID: Q117551

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office Assistant for Windows, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Assistant, if you close a Cue Card while the Locate dialog box is displayed, you receive a general protection (GP) fault.

CAUSE

This problem occurs only when you close a Cue Card if the Locate dialog box is displayed as a result of selecting a document name in the Cue Card. If you select a document name in one of the Cue Cards to open the document, and the document cannot be found, the Locate dialog box is displayed. If you then close a Cue Card, before closing the Locate dialog box, you receive a GP fault.

Note that if you close a Cue Card while the Locate dialog box is displayed, but the locate dialog box is displayed as a result of selecting a document name in the Microsoft Office Assistant, rather than in a Cue Card, the Locate dialog box closes with the Cue Card, but you do not receive a GP fault.

WORKAROUND

To avoid receiving a GP Fault when you close a Cue Card in Microsoft Office Assistant, close the Locate dialog box before you close the Cue Card.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
