The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Office for Windows, version 4.3-CD
SYMPTOMS
When you run Setup from the Microsoft Office CD, Microsoft Office is
installed as if it were installed from a network. With this type of
installation, the Windows Setup icon and the Control panel icon do not work
correctly if you add them to the MOM toolbar.
If you add the Control panel or Windows Setup icon to the MOM toolbar, and
then choose Printer, and choose Add, you receive one of the following error
messages:
If you choose the Control Panel icon
The information file is damaged or not in the SYSTEM directory.
Copy the original CONTROL.INF or SETUP.INF on Windows disk 1 to
your SYSTEM directory, or contact your device manufacturer to get
a new information file.
The dialog box remains, even when you click OK to dismiss it.
If you choose the Windows Setup icon
The SETUP.INF file on your system is not valid for use with
this version of setup. If you continue setup, you may encounter
problems. You should quit setup and replace SETUP.INF with the
version on your windows disks. See the documentation for information
about copying Windows files directly to your computer.
If you click OK, the error message goes away and you can continue with
other operations.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because when you perform a network installation of
Microsoft Office, Office cannot find the SETUP.INF or .CPL files.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, do the following:
- From on the MOM menu, choose Customize, and select the Toolbar tab.
- From the list of available programs, select Control Panel, and choose
Edit.
- In the Edit Program Item dialog box, in the Working directory box, type
"C:\WINDOWS" (without the quotation marks), and choose the OK button
twice.
To correct problems with Windows Setup, follow steps 1-3, but in step 2,
select Windows Setup rather than Control Panel.
