Can't Switch to MOM While Running Creative Writer

ID: Q124975

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, version 4.2

SYMPTOMS

If you press COMMAND+TAB to switch to the Finder from within Microsoft Creative Writer, the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) icon does not appear.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you have selected the Enable QuickSwitch check box in the Microsoft Office Manager dialog box. When you use the QuickSwitch keys, COMMAND+TAB, to switch to the Finder from within Creative Writer, the menu bar does not appear. Because the MOM icon appears on the menu bar when you install Microsoft Office, you cannot switch to MOM from the Creative Writer application.

WORKAROUNDS

To switch to MOM from within Creative Writer, use any of the following methods:

Method 1: If another application is running, such as TeachText, switch to the other application first, and then switch to the Finder.

Method 2: Switch to the Finder by pressing COMMAND+TAB, and then click on the screen in the approximate location where the MOM icon should appear on the menu bar. As you click where the menu bar should appear on the screen, menu bar items will appear temporarily. When a menu item appears, you can choose the commands normally.
