Office: Hang/Crash Using Apple ControlStrip Toolbar

ID: Q127792

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word, when you click a button on the ControlStrip toolbar that is included with System 7.1.1 or 7.5 on a PowerBook computer, one of the Microsoft Office programs that is listed at the beginning of this article may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you use the keyboard to select an item on a menu in Microsoft Excel or Word, and then resize or click a button on the ControlStrip toolbar.

For example, in Microsoft Excel, if you press F10 to activate the File menu, press the DOWN ARROW key to select an item on the File menu, and then click a button on the ControlStrip toolbar, or resize the toolbar while the File menu is displayed, Microsoft Excel may stop responding. When this happens, you may need to restart your Macintosh.

Note that the ControlStrip toolbar is available in System 7.1 and 7.5, but only for a PowerBook computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The Apple PowerBook is manufactured by Apple Computer, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
