Icon for Office Manuals Alias Different from CD Icon

ID: Q130585

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, version 4.2.1CD

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office, the icon that appears for the Microsoft Office Manuals alias in the Microsoft Office folder is not the same icon that is used for the Microsoft Office Manuals file on the CD-ROM.

CAUSE

When you install Microsoft Office from the 4.2.1 CD, the icon used for the Microsoft Office Manuals alias is a black and white image of an open book, with an arrow pointing to the left. The Microsoft Office Manuals icon on the Microsoft Office CD is a color image of a hand holding a pencil writing on a piece of paper.

Note that this behavior does not affect the functionality of the documentation. It is strictly a visual difference. The icon used by the alias that is created for the Microsoft Office Manuals file is different from the icon that is used for the Microsoft Office Manuals file on the Microsoft Office CD.

WORKAROUND

To display the same icon for the Microsoft office Manuals alias as the icon used for the Microsoft Office Manuals file on the CD, do the following:

  1. In the Finder, select the Microsoft Office Manuals alias in the Microsoft Office folder.

  2. From the File menu, choose Get Info.

  3. Click the icon that appears at the top of the dialog box that is displayed.

  4. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.

At this point, the Microsoft Office Manuals alias icon is replaced by the icon that is used for the Microsoft Office Manuals file on the CD.

  5. Close the file information dialog box.
