SYMPTOMS
If you install Microsoft Office 97 for Windows on a computer that
contains an earlier version of Microsoft Office, when you click a button
on the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) toolbar for an application
installed by the earlier version of Office, the newer version of the
Office application starts.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design of MOM because a button for a "registered"
application, or an application that appears on the MOM toolbar by
default, always starts the newest version of an application. To locate a
registered application, MOM uses the information in the Windows registry
file (in Windows 95) and starts the newest or current version of the
application.
Q119878 How MOM Locates a Registered Application WORKAROUND
Note that the recommended method for upgrading to Microsoft Office 97 for
Windows is to run the Setup program for an earlier version of Microsoft
Office in maintenance mode, and click the Remove All button. However, if
you want to run an earlier version of a registered application in
Microsoft Windows, use any of the following methods.
