SYMPTOMSWhen you open the New dialog box by clicking New on the File menu in a Microsoft Office application or by clicking the Start A New Document button on the Office toolbar, the icons that appear in this dialog box may display a generic icon with a question mark. CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you perform a Run From Network Server or Run From
CD installation of Microsoft Office under Windows NT version 3.51. This
behavior occurs because Microsoft Office cannot display the correct icon
for an item that is located on a network drive or CD.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
