MOFF: Error Starting Find File from Microsoft Office Manager

ID: Q141360

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, versions 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.1a, 4.2.1b

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Find File from Microsoft Office Manager (MOM), you may receive the following error message

Cannot continue because of a request for an unknown function!
and your only option is to click OK.

CAUSE

You may receive this error message if the Microsoft OLE Extension has been disabled or if it is not in the Extensions folder.

The OLE Extension may be disabled because it is conflicting with another extension.

RESOLUTION

If the Microsoft OLE Extension is missing from the Extensions folder, run the Microsoft Office Setup program and choose the Reinstall option to replace the missing file.

If the Microsoft OLE Extension is not in the Extensions folder, but is located somewhere else on your hard disk, move the OLE extension to the Extensions folder and then restart your computer.

If the Microsoft OLE Extension is in the Extensions folder, this problem may be the result of an extension conflict. In this case, use Extension Manager to disable all unnecessary extensions to try and isolate the extension that is causing the conflict.
