OFF: Binder Sections With Links Have Invalid Source

ID: Q152580

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a, 7.0b
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you add a Microsoft Excel section that contains one or more links to a Microsoft Office Binder, Binder displays the following message:

This document contains links. Re-establish links?
If you click Yes, Binder looks for the file in the temporary folder. It displays a dialog box titled "File Not Found." After you navigate to the proper linked file and click OK, Binder inserts the file. However, if you click a cell that contains a link, the formula bar shows that the link is to a file in the temporary folder, instead of into the folder where the linked file resides.

If you click No, Binder inserts the file. However, if you click a cell that contains a link, the formula bar shows that the link is to a file in the temporary folder, instead of the folder where the linked file resides.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the following steps:

  1. Open the binder file.

  2. On the Edit menu, click Links.

  3. Select the link to be modified, and click Change Source.

  4. Select the proper source file, and click OK.

  5. In the Links dialog box, click OK.
