SUMMARY
Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, version 4.2.1b on compact disc, is now
being bundled with Microsoft Bookshelf 1996-97, a collection of business
tools, and a set of Internet-related programs. This enhanced version
replaces the standard version on compact disc and will not be available on
floppy disks. No special bundle will be available for the Academic Edition
of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh because that version already contains
Microsoft Bookshelf.

CONTENTS AND INSTALLATIONDisc 1This disc contains the same CD-ROM version of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, version 4.2.1b, that shipped prior to the release of the bundled version of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh.The Setup program on disc 1 will only install the Microsoft Office component programs (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, the shared Office applications, and the Microsoft Office Manager). After the disc 1 Setup is finished, run the Installer on disc 2. Disc 2This disc contains Bookshelf, the business tools, and the Internet-related programs. To install these components, start the Installer (called "Install Bookshelf and Tools") on disc 2, and follow the directions provided in the installation windows.The "Install Bookshelf and Tools" Installer is an integrated installation program (for disc 2 only) that will install, by default, Microsoft Bookshelf 1996-97, Microsoft QuickShelf, Business Tools and Templates for Microsoft Office, Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.1, Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard, Internet Config 1.3, Internet Assistant for Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Manager 4.2.1c Updater, and supporting System files. The first window that appears after starting the Installer will default to an "Easy Install," which will install all of the components on the compact disc. You also have the option to perform a Custom Install, which will allow you to select just the components you want to install. After choosing either "Easy Install" or "Custom Install" click the Install button in this first window. The install program will automatically copy all the required files to your hard disk. Microsoft QuickShelf:
The Installer copies the Microsoft QuickShelf control panel into your Control Panels folder. The Microsoft QuickShelf control panel, by default, adds the QuickShelf menu to the desktop menu bar. The QuickShelf menu allows you to pick the Bookshelf component you want to access. Business Tools and Templates: The Business Tools and Templates folder contains 43 small business tools and templates, the Business Guide, and Checklists. Business Guide: The Business Guide is a collection of over 400 tips, checklists, and other information for small businesses. The HTML and graphics files for the Business Guide are stored in the Guide folder. To start the Business Guide, double-click the "Business Guide Start" alias in the "Business Tools and Templates" folder on your hard disk. NOTE: The Business Guide files are all HTML files that are designed to be viewed through your Internet browser. When you double-click the "Business Guide Start" alias, your browser will be started and the first page in the guide will be displayed. Checklists: The Checklists folder contains Microsoft Word document checklists that compliment the information in the Business Guide. Microsoft Office Templates: The collection of small business templates for Microsoft Office for the Macintosh are as follows:
The Microsoft Internet Explorer was developed specifically for use with the Apple System 7.x operating system, and is completely integrated with the Macintosh user interface and underlying architectures, including support for AppleScript. The version installed (68K or Power Macintosh) depends on the type of computer on which it is being installed. If you want the FAT version installed, you must perform a Custom Install of the Bookshelf and Tools Installer and then select the "Internet Explorer For Both PPC & 68K (FAT)" option. Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard: The Internet Connection Wizard will help you get connected to the Internet with a PPP account from an Internet Service Provider. To start the Internet Connection Wizard, quit all programs currently running, and then double- click the Internet Connection Wizard icon in the Internet Connection Wizard folder on your hard disk. If you don't have an Internet Service Provider, the Internet Connection Wizard helps you choose one and can even help set up your account. Internet Config 1.3: The Installer will copy the Internet Config 1.3 folder to your hard disk, as well as the Internet Config Extension to the Extensions folder. To run the Internet Config program, double-click the Internet Config icon in the Internet Config 1.3 folder on your hard disk. After the program is started, you can set various preferences related to Internet and e-mail programs you have installed on your computer. NOTE: Internet Config is a freeware application and is not fully supported by Microsoft.
