SUMMARY
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry.
Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the
registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the
Windows folder.
CAUSEThis problem may occur after you install the Microsoft Office Find Fast Indexer or if the amount of free disk space is low. RESOLUTIONMethod 1: Change SlowDown of the Microsoft Office Find Fast IndexerTo improve the performance of the computer when you use the Find Fast indexer utility, add the SlowDown value setting in the Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 registry. The SlowDown value tells Find Fast to delay indexing for a specified amount of time between index updates. Delaying indexing minimizes system activity and therefore increases performance.WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and user.dat) before you edit the registry. To add the SlowDown setting, follow these steps:
Method 2: Check Your Disk SpaceCheck to make sure that you have enough disk space available. If you are running low on disk space, delete any files and folders that you are not using and empty the Recycle Bin to create more available disk space.STATUSThis behavior is by design of the Find Fast Indexer in Microsoft Office 97.
