OFF98: UNCONF: Error Type 15 During You Run First Run Installation

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Microsoft Office 98 program for the first time, the following error message may appear:

The application "unknown" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 15 occurred.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

• You install Microsoft Office 98 by using the drag-and-drop installation method.


-and-


• You install Norton Disk Doubler.


-and-


• You restart your computer.


-and-


• You then attempt to start one of the products listed at the beginning of this article.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, increase the preferred memory size of the Microsoft Office First Run program, which is located in the following folder

<hard disk>:Microsoft Office 98:Office

1. Open the Microsoft Office 98:Office folder. Select the Microsoft Office First Run file by clicking it once.



2. On the File menu, click Get Info.



3. In the Preferred Size box, type 2048.



4. Click the Close box.
