OFF: How to Obtain the Network Installation Wizard

This article explains how to download and install the Network Installation Wizard (NIW) for Microsoft Office.

NOTE: The current version of the Network Installation Wizard should work correctly with all Office 95 and Office 97 STF files.

To download the Network Installation Wizard from the Microsoft Office Resource Kit Web site, use your Web browser to go to the following address:

Microsoft Download Center

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center. Click the file name below to download the file:

Setupniw.exe

and then click How to use the Microsoft Download Center.

Running Setupniw.exe

When prompted, save the Setupniw.exe file to your hard disk. By doing so, you will not have to download the Setupniw.exe file again, in case you or anyone else needs to reinstall the NIW in the future.

After you have completely downloaded the Setupniw.exe file, install the NIW by double-clicking the Setupniw.exe file in Windows Explorer, and following the instructions on the screen.

To run the NIW, click Start, point to Programs, point to Network Installation Wizard, and click Network Installation Wizard.

NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 does not use the NIW; instead, Microsoft Office 2000 uses the Custom Installation Wizard, or CIW. You can download the CIW as part of the Office Resource Kit Tool Set from the following address:
