ID: Q196348

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

NOTE: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu, click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook, you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

SUMMARY

This article describes how to share contact information between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express, which ships with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0.

MORE INFORMATION

If you have installed the Internet Mail Only version of Outlook, you can share the Contact list with Outlook Express. The sharing options can be set in Outlook Express or in the Windows Address Book directly; you cannot set these options in Outlook 2000.

Method 1: Set the Sharing Option in Outlook Express

  1. Start Outlook Express.

  2. Click Address Book on the Tools menu, or click Addresses on the toolbar.

  3. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  4. Click to select the desired sharing option. Click OK.

  5. Close the Address Book.

Method 2: Set the Sharing Option in the Windows Address Book

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  2. Type wab, and then click OK

  3. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  4. Click to select the desired sharing option. Click OK.

  5. Close the Windows Address Book.

NOTE: Turning on sharing will not give access to any entries made to the Outlook Express Address Book or the Windows Address Book while sharing was off. You will not see entries made while sharing was turned off because those entries are stored in the Windows Address Book (WAB). Therefore, it is necessary to import these entries into Outlook 2000 using the Import and Export Wizard.
