OL2000: ErrMsg: "Registration wizard error" on Starting Computer

SYMPTOMS

When restarting your computer after installing Microsoft Outlook 2000, you may get the following error message:

Registration wizard error, missing R command line parameters


CAUSE

The computer is trying to start the Microsoft Exchange Client (Windows Messaging System). You may have chosen the option to place the Inbox in your Startup folder when installing this program. Or, you installed the program from the WMS.exe file on your Microsoft Windows 98 CD after installing Outlook.


RESOLUTION

If you placed the shortcut to Exchng32.exe (Inbox) in your Startup folder, remove it and restart your computer.

If you installed the Windows Messaging System from your Windows 98 CD after installing Outlook, reinstall Outlook.


MORE INFORMATION

The Startup folder is at the following location:

C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
If you want, you can replace the Inbox shortcut with a shortcut to Outlook. This will start Outlook automatically each time you start your computer.

To reinstall Outlook:

  1. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.


  2. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click to select Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, and click Add/Remove.


  3. In the Maintenance dialog box, click Repair Office; then, click Reinstall Office 2000 Premium, and click Finish.
