SYMPTOMS

You want to designate a Contacts subfolder in the Windows Address Book as the default address source for e-mail messages, but you find that the top- level folder is always selected.

RESOLUTION

To address an e-mail message using Contacts, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

You can access addresses in subfolders through the Windows Address Book, but you cannot make the subfolder the default folder in this view.

To send mail to a recipient in a subfolder, follow these steps:

  1. Select the recipient in a subfolder of the main Contacts folder.

  2. On the Action menu, click New Message To Contact.

  3. Complete the message and then click Send.

Method 2

You can address a message using the Windows Address Book search function.

To perform a search for a specific person, follow these steps:

  1. In Outlook, press CTRL+SHIFT+P.

  2. Select a Contacts folder in the Look In list.

  3. Type the person's name in the Name box and click Find Now. You can use the full name, any part of the name, or a single letter.

  4. Right-click the name in the Search Results list and click Send Mail.

The Find People dialog box keeps the most recently searched address source in the Look In box.
